I currently work at Pinterest as a product designer on the Notifications team. Most of my day-to-day work focuses on designing experiences to meet business goals while ensuring good user experience. My projects span across multiple channels - emails, the notifications center, notification settings, and widgets. Below are 3 examples of projects I've worked on.

Home feed widget

In the beginning of 2023, the Notifications team took ownership of widgets as another channel to inspire users. Previously, another team had worked on two widgets: a board widget that displays Pins you've saved, and an interest widget that shows curated content for a specific topic. We wanted to create a widget that was more accessible to a broader audience, including less active users and those who don't have much saved content but still want inspiration.

I designed the home feed widget, which comes in 3 sizes and displays Pins from your home feed. Despite having no upsell or education for this new widget (yet!), there has been very promising growth and usage, proving widgets as a valuable area for further opportunities.

The iOS widget launched in April 2023; as of November 2023, there are currently ~1.7 million active widgets.

The Android widget launched at the end of September 2023; as of November 2023, there are currently ~300k active widgets.

Push notification opt-in upsells

For this project, I worked on improving the push notifications opt-in experience for users on the Pinterest iOS app. These new upsells resulted in a +102k increase in weekly active users.

The two existing experiences for users to opt in were 1) through the native prompt after the first time signed up or installed the app, and 2) a modal on app launch that was confusing and not compelling.

Since both in-app upsells and push notifications are very disruptive, they need to offer enough value for the user to opt in. I identified 4 areas of opportunity for different user actions that signal high intent from a user, and created designs for each.

Internal tool design sprints

I've led two design sprints for an adjacent team that owns EHQ (Experience HQ), a critical internal tool used by many teams at Pinterest to launch experiences to users. EHQ acts as an air traffic control system for Pinterest experiences (e.g. upsells, education tooltips, surveys, etc) and ensures that users are seeing them at the right place and time. Currently, EHQ is quite difficult and overwhelming to use, and these design sprints focused on improving the UI and usability for users to create and configure experiences, as well as run experiments.
